Description
Conrad, Joseph. Autograph Letter & Presentation copy of "The Shadow Line". The Wayfarers Library edition, J.M. Dent London. 8vo, 227 pp, blue cloth marked, spine faded & partially detached. The letter and presentation are to a fellow seaman Frederic George Cooper. Conrad forwards a copy of "The Shadow Line", signed and presented, with an amusing note beneath the frontispiece portrait complaining the portrait looks nothing like him and was "stuck into the book without my consent or knowledge". The letter is handwritten from "Oswalds, Bishopsbourne, Kent" and dated 11.1.21. Conrad writes that he is deeply touched by Cooper's "testimony to my fidelity (to the truth)" in an article Cooper has written in "N. M. (?)". Conrad apologizes for the delay in writing and sends "the little (cheap - alas!) copy of Shadow Line" but he had nothing else at hand. Nice association.
