With a reference to Captain Cook at the Sandwich Islanders page: "It was on the island of Hawaii, that the famous Captain Cook was killed by the natives many years ago" p162. Woodcut illustrations throughout the text, illustrating the charming little things children might be intrigued by, loosely grouped in sections such as man made items - plows, forts, diving bells, cupola, and pyramid; then animals, including a "kanguroo" (not pictured) ; ships including a galley, ketch xebec, brigantine; food including tea, coffee, flax; birds; fish; and finally peoples of the world including Nootka Indians, Mexicans, French, Icelanders, Algerines, Negroes, Otaheitans and Sandwich islanders. It concludes with a story of a little girl named Alice Green, transported from her home in Norwich Ct., to Boston on the back of a faithful Indian, Uncas, through snow and vicissitude.
