Early plans for Botany Bay, quoting James Cook in The Morning Chronicle and London Advertiser, September 18, 1786.

London: 1786. Early newspaper account of the plan to establish a settlement at Botany Bay on the "east side of New Holland" for "the reception of male and female felons". The article which follows is based on Cook's 1st voyage, and begins with a description of Cook, Banks and Solander's expedition into the countryside in part to collect plants. Cook writes "The great quantity of plants which Mr. Banks and Dr. Solander collected in this place induced me to give it the name of Botany Bay". The article runs over 55 column inches.
