Purchase of Negroes from Seminole Indians. Letter from the Secretary of War, in Answer to A Call for Information in relation to the Purchase of Indian Negroes in the Seminole Country.

Washington DC: June 6, 1836. House of Representatives Doc. No. 275, 24th Congress, 1st session. Mr. Cass discusses the proposal to buy negro slaves from the Seminole Indian nation of Florida. General Thompson's view prevails, that "the Indians in Florida did not want to sell their negroes, and the very idea that any individuals are permitted to come into their country to buy, have distresed them very much, and all say they will neither sell nor leave their negroes."
