Front cover is detached, and is slightly chipped at corners. Presentation copy signed by "the author", dated Sep. 21 1882. Interior pages lightly but evenly toned, no fox spotting. Recollections by Smith, who graduated in 1833 during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, and while General Thayer was superintendent at West Point. Very good. Item #11399
