The Baronial Halls and Picturesque Edifices of England, Volume I & II.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1848. Second edition. Hardcover. Small folio, profusely illustrated with very handsome plates, rich full-page lithotints of some of the finest British residences, along with woodcut text illustrations. The "Hatfield House, Hertfordshire" plate printed on tissue, laid down, has loosened at the upper half. Although Vol II Contents lists a plate for "Hengrave Hall", it was never bound in.

Executed in lithotint under the superintendence of Mr. Harding. From drawings by J D Harding, G Cattermole, S Prout, W Muller, J Holland and other eminent artists. A breaker volume, with faint tide marks on prints.

Folio, all edges gilt, unpaginated. Original full dark brown blind stamped covers with gilt title at spine. Extremes rubbed. Internally, damp stains in the text, but most of the plates with damp stains primarily in the margins. Some very early pages including the title page have a slight bid of mold, which is mostly on the tissue guards or verso of plates, but not visible on the front. The rest of the pages of the 2 volumes are mold free. A breaker volume. Fair. Item #12473
