Each volume contains 5 plays by diverse authors as Samuel Foote, Arthur Murphy and David Garrick; Vol. 4 includes the play "Edgar and Emmeline" by Dr. Hawkesworth, who was later to edit Captain James Cooks papers relative to his first voyage to the South Pacific. Vol. 6 includes a play by John Burgoyne, Gentleman Johnny, the British general of note who surrendered his army of 5000 at the Battle of Saratoga in the American Revolution. 12mo, each play individually paginated in roughly 40-70pp, most published in 1793 or 1794, each illustrated with a beautifully engraved title & portrait (usually of an actress or actor), with the heading "Parson's Minor Theatre". Gilt inner & outer dentelles original marbled endpapers, silk bookmarks, period bookplate of George Galway Mills Esq. (member of the British Parliament for Mitchell or St. Michael 1807-8). Red & green title and volume labels, a little rubbed at edges, but very pleasant overall. 35 copies are listed on OCLC; however many are odd volumes. Very good overall. Item #12936
