Two proof plates of the Black-breasted or Northern Buzzard from the "Birds of Australia"
London: Witherby & Co, 1912. A set of two proof plates of the identical bird, with variant species names in the caption. One caption, which is the published print is listed as "Gypoictinia Decepta (Northern Buzzard). The variant plate, not published is "Gypoictinia Melanosterna (Black-breasted Buzzard). A pencilled "240" is lightly erased from the top right corner of one print. The lithographs have original hand color. Paper size 13 3/4 x 9 3/4". Ca. 1912. Mathews published his masterwork "Birds of Australia" from 1910 through 1928. In excellent condition. Item #13824
