Cambridge and London: Macmillan, 1862. Presentation copy with gorgeous hand-drawn ownership bookplate, in a gift binding. Includes nine lectures, with the first lecture being at the inauguration of the University of Sydney by one of the first professors. The author was lost in 1866 in the wreck of the "London" steamship. The book belonged to "E.M.W.", most likely a family member. A delicate wreath fashioned from branches and leaves, with a bird's nest and many charming perched and flying birds, surrounding the initials E. M. W, which is signed "Ina Fisher 1877". In a full brown morocco gift binding, gilt decorated spine and fleurons on the covers, gilt inner dentelles. Sml 8vo, frontis, 432pp, all edges gilt. Very gently rubbed at top of spine, o/w very good. Internally, bookplate inside front cover, slt scratches to ffep, o/w very good. F18842. Item #14032
