Item #14126 Australian Family. C. Mutzel, painter.

Australian Family.

New York: Jones Brothers Pub. Co., 1893. A realistic chromolithographic print depicting aboriginal life, very interesting for the tribal art illustrated. Six aborigines are pictured in a view at a camp. A chief, with ritualistic chest scarring, a boomerang & club tucked into the waistband of a skin, wearing a headdress & with a spear; three women, one older holding a baby; a younger woman holding a container; and one dressing a dead kangaroo in front of a campfire and two men behind. Most interesting for the decorated shield, decorative bags and decorated bark paintings drying in the foreground. Plate XIV. Not found in Trove. Item #14126
