London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1953. Proof. A proof copy of an account of the first successful ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Brown kraft paper wrappers marked "Not Final Copy Set from Collected Galleys NB", with a stamp on the brown paper wrapper to be returned to Curtis Brown, publishers in New York. 8vo, 284pp, with a new set pf pages 283 - 290 loosely inserted at the back. A couple of penciled notations - on "Illustrations in Colour", a note that says '16 pp probably' and '48pp probably' on "Photographs". All page numbes are shown as zeros. Loosely inserted is a typescript of the forward by H.R.H., with 'The Duke of Edinburgh' struck out. Wrappers a little browned and a light crease through first couple pageso/w very good. Item #14555
