B&w printed photo postcard showing an Agra scene. Posted, to Dr. W. Filchner in Berlin, with message in German; Tibet is mentioned in the first line. Filchner led the 1911 German Antarctic expedition in the "Deutschland," which endured 9 months icebound in Weddell Sea; although it failed to make an Antarctic crossing, it made the important discoveries of the Luitpold Coast and the Filchner Ice Shelf. Filchner went to India at the outbreak of World War II, taking geomagnetic surveys in Nepal. He spent the war years in India in an internment camp, and remained there until 1949. 5 1/2 x 3 1/2", two holes punched at bottom of card, front of card slightly dusty, o/w very good. Very good.
