The New Protestant Sovereign Safely Coach Wot's about to Start from the New Castle Windsor, on Improved Principles; the Late on being found Crazy.

London: S. W. Fores, 41 Piccadilly, 1829. A political caricature with Western Australian associations. The cartoon illustrates a whispering campaign against Wellington in the summer and autumn which led him to take legal action, when there was talk of the government breaking up. Eldon drives the coach in which George IV is the passenger. Eldon's opposition to the Catholic Relief Bill gathers momentum as Wellington's 'Emancipation Carrier', portrayed as a two-wheeled cart, crashes. The two men dumped from the cart are Wellington & Robert Peel. Amongst the papers scattered about the two men are "Swan River grants to Relatives". Peel attracted a certain amount of political heat for granting his cousin Thomas Peel extensive tracts of land in the new Swan River Colony, later Western Australia. BM:15809. Copper engraving with period hand color. 14 3/4 x 9 1/2" (platemark) with margins. Margins a little dusty otherwise very good condition. After extensive searching on both Trove and the State Library of Western Australia websites, we could not locate a copy. Item #15774
