Brilliantly colored samples of thread, the text describes dyeing processes for aniline colors and dyeing processes for alizarine dyestuffs; in English. The silk thread samples at the back of the volume are accompanied by German text describing the percentage of the specific dye used in each thread sample.
I. G. Farben was founded in 1925, as a merger of BASF with Hoechst, Bayer, and three other companies; at its peak it was the fourth largest company worldwide and dominated the world market in the production of synthetic dyes. Following WWII some of its directors were put on trial at Nuremberg and sentenced to prison for war crimes; due to the extent of its war crimes the company was split up in 1951.
Sml 8vo, 50pp text, 212 samples of silk thread on 10 rigid card stock pages. Gilt stamped red cloth with gilt titles at front cover and spine. At front cover: "Aniline and Alizarine dyestuffs on silk. Sole Importers for the U. S. A.: General Dyestuff Corporation, 230 Fifth Avenue, New York". Covers gently rubbed at spine ends; front free end paper ruffled at outer edge; paper pocket inside rear cover is empty, possibly missing the US price list. Not found by us on OCLC.
