Children's folio natural history picture book with 22 chromolithograph plates (each measuring 10 x 12") and hundreds of black and white woodblock illustrations of animals. In addition to the usual suspects in color there is a beautiful color plate of a King Charles dog wearing a pale blue ribbon. B&W plates include the Tasmanian Wolf (thylacine), Emeu (sic) and Kangaroo. Pictorial cover in full red buckram. Striking pictorial cover with illustration in black, silver and green, with a black elephant and a walking elephant handler and silver embossed riders on a green platform on the elephant's back. Folio, color frontis, 64pp. Covers marked and stained (front cover illustration not affected), especially rear cover; spine ends, especially foot of spine chipped.
