It is charmingly illustrated with wood block illustrations for each word, including some Australian flora and fauna, ie, the kangaroo, & lyre bird as well as the cassowary, sheep and whales. Printed in a large format, each page is illustrated with 12 b&w engravings of animals, people and objects, with the name of each below. Some of the American subjects include: Indian, Negro, washer woman, Esquimau, and velocipede. With 'Theodore Roosevelt's Letters to His Children' articles from the Poughkeepsie Evening Star laid down at early pages (through p21), and with many additional newspaper articles loosely inserted.
