Indian Visiting Half Moon in the Hudson.

ca. 1895. Shute was a well known illustrator from Brookline Mass. who worked for Stratemeyer until his death in 1906. This is a watercolor and gouache (on paperboard) illustration in shades of black and white, depicting Native Americans in canoes approaching Henry Hudson's Half Moon. Signed at the left, A. B. S., and with two spaces at the lower left and upper right, and marked mortise in pencil. Image size 10 1/4 x 16". Paperboard size: 15 x 20" Very good overall. Item #16363
