London: C & W. B. Whittaker, 1824. Hand colored copper engraved portrait of the Maori chief by Australia's first free settler professional artist John Lewin, whose 'Birds of New South Wales' was the first work on natural history to have been made in the country.

The head and shoulders portrait depicts the chief in traditional costume, with ear ornaments, feather cloak, a turkey feather over one ear, and traditional moko. Drawn by John William Lewin and engraved by Moses Griffith. 5 1/4 x 9" Item #17243
