London: Raphael Tuck and Sons, c1910. Postcards. Five color, split back Tuck illustrated postcards showing scenes in and around Manchester, Vermont. Includes the Battenkill River, Downer's Glen, the Mark Skinner Library, the Equinox House and Main Street, and Mount Equinox. The postcards were sold and are imprinted with the name of Hard's Drug Store, which was run until 1966 by the poet Walter Hard, of whom Carl Sandburg once said, "I find his Yankees more fascinating than most of the Greeks in Greek mythology." Hard, born in Manchester, also ran a bookstore, served five terms in the state legislature and wrote a weekly newspaper column. With standard "Tuck's Post Card" backing. Each 3 1/2 by 5 inches. The Battenkill and Mount Equinox cards have chips on the face. Item #17279
