Crimean War map: 'Glorious Victory. Storming the Malakhoff & Redan Forts and Capture of Sebastopol, by the Allies, Septr 8th & 9th 1855'. No 20.

London: Read & Co, September 18, 1855. A highly dramatic color lithographic panorama of the height of the most important and final battle of the Crimean War, with English and French troops bombarding and storming the Russian forts, seen enveloped by white clouds of smoke at the top of the print. The British flag flies at the lower left, and the the French flag at the lower right, as masses of troops surge across the middle ground. In the distance, he Russians are seen retreating across a pontoon bridge as their ships burn in the harbor. The Crimean War was one of the first wars for which the British public received day to day coverage of the action; this panorama for example has labels throughout, naming the generals, the various advancing troops and even the replacing of the Russian flag by the French Tricolor. Titles below the panorama in English and French. 28 x 20 3/4". Slightly chipped at margins, not affecting printed image. Very good overall. Item #17536
