Item #18249 Hudson River School landscape painting.

Hudson River School landscape painting.

Ca. 1850. A Hudson River panorama, unsigned, with a steamboat in the near ground and sailboats in the distance, the foreground a rugged shoreline scene with trees. Possibly inspired by the Hudson Highlands, with some rather exaggerated mountain profiles meeting the shoreline. Painted on canvas and applied to the reverse side of convex glass, a manufacturing process which is a lost art. There is a six inch hairline crack in the glass and some slight faint damage in the skyline of the canvas. Overall a charming landscape framed in a period frame. Item #18249
