The first installments of the Jules Verne adventure "Les Anglais au pole Nord" , with a map on two pages, appearing in this volume for 1864, as well as a new translation of "Le Robinson Suisse" (Swiss Family Robinson) by Hans Rudolf Wyss. "The English at the North Pole" was the first part, and "The Desert of Ice" (Le Desert de Glace) the second, of Jules Verne's "Voyages et aventures du capitaine Hatteras" (the Adventures of Captain Hatteras); Captain Hatteras was based upon the British explorer John Franklin.
4to, 380pp, text in two columns, profusely illustrated. Gilt stamped purple cloth, ornate gilt decorated spine. Spine ends rubbed, short splits at spine ends, pages bright and clean. Good + condition. Item #18375
