Leiden: Elzevir, 1627. First edition. Hardcover. A collection of writings on Switzerland, with the first part including LIber Primus, Liber Secundus, and Helvetiae. The second part on England by Thomas Smith "De Republica Anglorum". Simmler (1530 - 1576) was a Swiss classicist and theologian, known for his works on Switzerland, especially 'De Helvetiorum Republica', which was the recognized as the central work on Swiss constitutional matters. He also wrote the first volume dedicated exclusively to the Swiss Alps.

Thomas Smith (1513 - 1577) was an English diplomat, scholar and Member of Parliament who became Queen Elizabeth's secretary of state and one of her most trusted Protestant counselors. Smith was granted a very large tract of land in Ireland, an attempt on Elizabeth's part to colonize the land and crush the Clandeboye O'Neill dynasty, which failed.
