Berlin: Ca. 1808 - 1811. Stunning original color, copper engraved, view of early Sydney which had been established only 23 years earlier. A German edition of the original French engraving by Victor Pillement in 'Voyage de Decouvertes au Terres Australes', on which Charles Lesueur was also an artist. Three aborigines in the foreground tend a fire, tents and ships in the middle ground and ships and the settlement in the distance. 8 x 5 1/2" with ample margins. Text on the border from "Verm Gegendstaende CXCV". See The National Gallery of Australia, Accession No: NGA 71.67, for the British edition. Very good condition. Item #18869
