A critique of one of the most important works of eighteenth century French Enlightenment, Francois Fenelon's "Les Aventures de Telemaque", which was an attack on the autocratic reign of King Louis XIV of France. Guedeville (1651 - 1721) was a writer, translator and pamphleteer. 12mo, frontispiece, 3 - 303pp; Critique de la Suite du Second Tome des Avantures de Telemaque: 305 - 444pp; marbled end papers. Brown morocco, gilt title and decorative pattern at spine. With the name "Mr. Premord, Viconte" in gilt at the front board, and signed "de Premord" at the title page. A search on Viconte Premord yields the Visconte d'Auge; the Pays d'Auge is an area in Normandy, between Calvados and Orne, whose main city is Lisieux. Rubbed at spine; very good internally.
