One of the first books offered by Shakespeare and Company, Paris, which was opened by Sylvia Beach in November of 1919; with the bookseller's bookplate inside the front cover. The bookplate reads "Ex-Libris Shakespeare and Company, Paris" printed in black, and is illustrated with an image of the Bard under an arched frame. With a prologue for the reader by Carl Van Vechten. A night in the life of Sophie Arnould (1740 - 1802) a French operatic soprano who made her debut in Paris at the Opera in 1757 and performed there for over 20 years. Sml 8vo, xx, 246pp. Tan paper covered boards, title in black on pale blue paper spine label at front board. Spine rubbed, holding tight with the backing paper. Very good overall. Item #20118
