Bird's-Eye Map of War District Natal. To Accompany the Official Railway Guide.

Durban: John Singleton & sons, Ca. 1903. Three large color maps printed on one sheet illustrating actions of the Boer War. The map appeared in the Official Railway Guide as a supplement promoting inward emigration after the recent political upheavals. Boer War positions are marked on the map with references to the war district and General Buller's final attack. The main map shows battles around Ladysmith and references the site of the 'Armoured train disaster November 15th, 1899' which is the site of Winston Churchill's capture; Map 2 shows Newcastle to Dundee with an inset profile view of Boer War positions from Colenso. Map 3 shows West of Durban. Original color, 23 x 36", closed tear at fold top right archivally repaired. A bit ruffled along top edge. Very good condition. Item #20545
