Civil War autograph letter from Union soldier at the Battle of Bowling Green, dated December 30th 1861 from Munfordville, Kentucky.

1861. A letter written from Munfordville, the site of an important railroad bridge crossing the Green River, which was a critical supply link in the Union supply line. Written on lined letterhead paper, the letterhead "From Cotter's Battery", decoratively surrounded by a cannon, cannon balls, a drum and flag. Cotter's Battery was Battery A, 1st Ohio Light Artillery and was commanded by Charles S. Cotter, from Ravenna, Ohio. The Battery provided artillery support at the Battle of Rowlett's Station, Kentucky on December 17, 1861. The Union army maintained its objective, which was to hold the railroad bridge across the Green River.

Addressed to Orissa, and signed Quinn, who writes concerning the build up of troops which would be necessary to defeat the rebels at Bowling Green: "Last night the report came in that there was 150,000 men at Bowling green, if that report be true, we will want 50,000 more men before we attack them." He adds that General McCook has crossed the Green River, that there could be fighting the same day, and that Bowling Green would be hard to take due to the heavy cannons and the many rebel batteries.

Folded, 5 x 8", written on 4 sides, two old folds. Very good condition. Very good condition. Item #20823
