Presentation copy signed by the master Florentine bookbinder and artist, Giulio Giannini, to Margherita Hastings, Firenze, 8 agosto, 1956. Limited edition, of which this is number 233 of 250. Giulio Giannini Jr. (1901 – 1992) was known for using the difficult technique of leather insets in bookbinding, creating a mosaic effect with different colored swatches of leather. The binding here employs decorated fabric bands laid down horizontally and secured with leather ties. Giulio Giannini e Figlio, founded in Florence in 1865, is a custom maker of handmade books, journals and fine papers.

Profusely illustrated with color woodcut engraved prints, devices and borders of peasant art from all the regions of Italy, by Eleonora Gallo. There are XXXIII color plates. English translation by C. Tassinari. Oblong 4to folio, 114pp, decorative end papers. Cream linen with decorative cloth bands laid down, leather ties at lower band detached. Rear board a bit marked; internally very light scattered foxing mostly at lower margins. OCLC: 5002446. Very good condition. Item #20976
