Giulio Giannini Jr. (1901 – 1992) was known for using the difficult technique of leather insets in bookbinding, creating a mosaic effect with different colored swatches of leather. The binding here employs decorated fabric bands laid down horizontally and secured with leather ties. Giulio Giannini e Figlio, founded in Florence in 1865, is a custom maker of handmade books, journals and fine papers.
