Ca. 1890. Standing photographic portrait of Sutherland DeWitt (1830-1917), a railroad engineer and Lodge member in Elmira, born in Kingston, New York. DeWitt is dressed in an elegant suit and tails, a medal at his lapel, and with impressive mutton chop whiskers falling to his shoulders. With a coat of arms "Fortis et Fidus", Clan Maclachlan, laid down above the portrait, and his birth and death dates written below the image, as well as "My first and latest dress suit". A manuscript poem at verso, "God Has Been Good to Me ...". Two small corner chips. 8 x 9 3/4" Item #21425
