Published in UK in St. Pauls, March, April 1870 and in Galaxy Magazine April-May 1870. Anthony Trollope [1815 –1882] was a well known and prolific Victorian novelist. Despite an unhappy childhood, and a rocky start to his career, he wrote while he maintained his position as a civil servant in the Post Office, ultimately publishing 47 novels and rising to the top of his profession as a senior civil servant.

Roy. 8vo, 824 pp, the story appearing on pp 272-283. 3/4 black leather and maroon buckram covers, 5 raised bands on spine with gilt title and decoration. Spine and cover edges very slightly rubbed, interior very clean, with tiny corner damp stain in later pages top outside edge. Very good overall. Item #21579
