A full page wood engraving of the blasting and mining taking place at Hallet's Point in Queens 'for the object of opening a navigable channel between East River and Long Island Sound' from the Harper's Weekly, a long running American newspaper well-known for its wood-cut illustrations. The image shows 5 tunnels being mined with a long ladder and men working, river and riverboats in the background. Later hand color, approximately 11 X 15 3/4", very clean, one sml tear at bottom, archivally repaired, not quite touching text. Very good overall. Item #21606
