Albany: Weed Parsons, 1880. Hardcover. Signed presentation copies from Colvin to Amasa J. Parker, of the Parker family of New York legislators. Colvin was the first to thoroughly explore the Adirondack Mountains and track its environmental degradation. His advocacy led to the creation of New York's Forest Preserve and the Adirondack Park.

The book contains the condensed reports for the years 1874-75-76-77 and '78. There are numerous maps & lithographic panoramic prints, which are very attractive. With late results in geodetic and trigonometrical measurements, magnetic variation, hydrography, river surveys, leveling and barometric-hypsometry, meteorology, rain-fall, botany, zoology and geology.

Amasa Junius Parker, to whom the book is presented (1843 - 1938) served in the New York State Senate, and graduated from Union College in 1863 and Albany Law School in 1864. He fought in the American Civil War, was a member of the State Assembly in 1882; and of the State Senate (1886, 1887; 1892 - 1895). He was a trustee of Union College and the Albany Law School, and active in the National Guard.
