Item #22135 Inventory of Books in a New York private library, which includes a copy of Cook's Voyages. Captain James Cook.

Inventory of Books in a New York private library, which includes a copy of Cook's Voyages.

1816. Hand written record (single sheet) of a private library, dated 19th July 1816, listing books, quantity and prices, some in dollars but mostly in pounds. From our point of view, the stand out inclusion is Cook's Voyages (2 Vols). The dollar amounts generally listed at the left column, with the conversion to pounds listed at the right column.

Other titles recorded are Evelina; Murray's English Grammar; Life of Maj. Lee; Life of Howard; Life of Franklin; Vicar of Wakefield, Boston Orations; Jackson's Book Keeping; Constitution of United States; Life of Nelson; Laws State of New York; and American Taxation. From the list of books owned, this appears to be a New York resident. 8 x 10 1/4". Two original folds, and manuscript note on verso, with total of Inventory recorded at $39.43.

Owner's name is written at the top, with the title. Unfortunately we were unable to decipher it; our best guess is that it is a Mr. J. D. Comming. Very good condition. Item #22135
