Special edition of this Christmas classic, consisting of the illustrated text volume and a separate portfolio containing a suite of plates in larger format. The text volume signed by illustrator Fritz Eichenberg at the limitations page, and the 5 plates, in a separate printing, each one signed by Eichenberg in pencil at the lower right. This edition limited to 100 numbered copies, of which this is Number 15.

Fritz Eichenberg, along with Rockwell Kent, is recognized for establishing the high level of American book illustration in the first half of the 20th century. Eichenberg (1901 - 1990) had a highly prolific book illustrating career, creating art for works by Charlotte and Emily Bronte, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Poe, and Swift. He settled in New York City, taught at the New School and at Pratt and later at the University of Rhode Island. He was drawn to folklore, children's stories, and subjects with aspects of fantasy, spiritual and emotional conflict, or social satire.
