London: Bernard Quaritch, 1899. Hardcover. Signed and inscribed on the half title and dated July 1901, by Heron-Allen to Mary Beatrice [Blennerhorst]. Heron-Allen (1861 –1943) was a British polymath, writer and Persian scholar, whose interest in the quatrains was kindled by a chance encounter which grew into a friendship with Bernard Quaritch, bookseller and publisher of Edward FitzGerald. In this volume Heron Allen gives Edward FitzGerald's quatrains at the left, with his English translation and the Persian sources on the facing page. Decorations by Ella Hallward.

Small 4to, frontispiece, xvi, 163pp, top edge gilt with uncut foredge. In publisher's green gilt decorated cloth with titles in English and Persian on the spine and front board, the front board decorated with elaborate gilt frames. A magnificent binding, spine ends very gently rubbed. Potter 564 (p170). Very good condition. Item #22323
