London: Clarke and Sons, 1802. First edition. Hardcover. First published in London in 1802, this is an unusual legal compendium: "it is intended as a complete compendium to the Merchant and Man of Business, whether in his Compting house or travelling to any distant part of the country ... [it] may enable him to act with promptitude where legal advice cannot be procured, and where delay might be productive of mischief" (xv). Maxwell was also the author of 'The Spirit of Maritime Laws'.

Small 8vo, xvi, 248pp, 20pp pale blue blank note paper. Contemporary calf, with raised bands and gilt rules at spine. Rubbed at extremities and spine. Internally, exceptionally bright and clean, no owner signatures, no toning to leaves. OCLC: 39621957 records 2 copies. It cites 251pp; the binding here indicates that the 2 pages were never bound in. Very good condition. Item #22324
