Lady Windermere's Fan. A Play About a Good Woman.

London: Elkin Mathews and John Lane, 1893. First edition. Hardcover. Oscar Wilde's first society comedy, written in 1892 and produced by George Alexander, the manager of St James's Theatre. The play, about a woman "with a past" attempting to reestablish herself in society, was Wilde's first dramatic success, and re-affirmed his place in fashionable circles. This period of acclaim lasted for only 3 years, following which Wilde suffered through his trial for homosexuality and subsequent imprisonment.
