Colonel V.S.M. de Guinzbourg, who was Permanent Secretary of the Paroemiological Society, of which he was the founder. He established the folklore and proverbs library at the United Nations. His bookplate on the front paste down. The proverbs here were translated into English with a few explanatory notes by H. Dawson-Grone, acting Commissioner of Customs, Kirin, Scarce book translated by H. Dawson-Grone, acting commissioner of Customs, Kirin & first of first Honours and Prizeman in French, German, Italian and Spanish, Trinity College, Dublin. Dawson-Grone explains that the proverbs in the text were originally "used a text book by Chinese school boys". He recommends that the English speaker wishing to learn Chinese memorize as many proverbs as possible.
