Register of the Officers and Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N. Y., From March 16, 1802 to January 1, 1850.

Register of the Officers and Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N. Y., From March 16, 1802 to January 1, 1850.

New York: J. F. Trow Printer, 1850. First edition. Wraps. The first publication recording those who attended West Point up to 1850, compiled by George W. Cullum (West Point Class of 1833), who decided to create the register to honor the approaching 50th anniversary of the Military Academy's founding.

Cullum was not immediately able to compile another register as he became ill and had other obligations which took him away from the Academy. He returned to West Point in 1864 as superintendent, and in 1867 published the next register, titled 'Biographical Register of the Officers and Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from its establishment, March 16, 1802, to the Army Reorganization of 1866-67'. Periodic updating of the Register was made possible by a bequest made by Cullum in 1892.

Biographies of the graduates are printed on the right, and timelines are printed on the left, by year.

This volume includes the errata slip tipped in, which reads, "It will be observed that pages from 5 to 30 inclusive are omitted. They were to have contained a history of the Institution, which, for want of some necessary papers, could not be prepared in time for the present edition." (p5). The title at the front wrapper reads "Compiled by Captain George W. Cullum, Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army ; from the official records of the War Department, and other reliable sources".
