Snap Shot photograph album, in and around Elwood, Victoria, 1927 - 1929.
Melbourne: 1927-29. Hardcover. Snap shots taken by 21 year old Myra Tuff, of her family's time in and around Melbourne with family and friends. Activities photographed include playing sport (tennis), partying, swimming at the beach, touring the countryside, canoeing, and celebrating Anzac Day 1929. A few of the snap shots showing Repatriation Department staff members; this was an agency which helped resettle World War I veterans on the land.
All snap shots are captioned, and include the following locations: Hampton, Luna Park, Portsea, Bach Beach Sorrento, Whitehall Sorrento, Mt. Macedon, Elwood, Greensborough, Elsterwick, Rickett's Point, Marysville, Kitchener House, East Melbourne, Belgrave (landscape views), St. Kilda, Parkdale, Brighton, Yarra, River Yarra, Brisbane, Barwon Heads, Queenscliff, Whitehall, Point Lonsdale, and Ocean Grove. The last 2 pages with memorial cards, newspaper obituaries laid down, and photographs of floral arrangements for Mr. R. J. Tuff of Foam Street, Elwood, who died in April of 1929.
With the name "M. Tuff" and "Elwood 1928" written inside the front cover. Other names listed on one image include: Madge [illegible], Dorothy Bigelow, Nellie Bulmer, and Joyce Kelly. Usually 6 photographs laid down per page, as well as at the end papers. Most images 2 1/2 x 3 1/2", with some larger. All photos neatly arranged with a full handwritten caption below.
Small oblong 4to, not paginated [46]pp. Gray textured cloth covers, no title at front cover, blind stamped decorative design of woman in profile at upper left front cover. Covers a bit rubbed at edges. Snap shots in very good condition. Very good condition. Item #22699
