In this sequel to the first story set in Oz, a boy named Tip and his friend Jack Pumpkinhead try to help Scarecrow, now the ruler of the Emerald City. Scarecrow struggles to maintain the peace after being challenged by the self-appointed General Jinjur who leads an all woman force of which she boasts "there is not an ugly face in my entire Army."

In the original red publisher's cloth with title in black on spine; title in both black and silver on front cover; silver lettering is outlined in black. 8vo, 287pp. With the following fourth state points: 12 full color plates illustrated by John R. Neill, copyright year on the verso of title page states "July 1904", dark green pictorial end papers, and no embossed Jack Pumpkin head at the back cover.
