Two Men in the Antarctic. An Expedition to Graham Land, 1920-1922.

New York: Macmillan, 1939. First American edition. Hardcover. Scarce account which rarely appears in the dust jacket. This is the record of what was meant to be the Cope Antarctic expedition in which the two junior members, Lester and Bagshawe (the first in his twenties and the other 19 years old), survived in an abandoned water boat they modified. From their base on Waterboat Point the men managed to make zoological observations and take measurements, including ice on sea and land, and the movement of glaciers.

8vo, 292pp, 33 plates, 3 text figures, 2 folding panoramas, 3 maps on endpapers. Cream cloth with title piece on spine in red. MacMillan printed in red at the base of the spine. Dust jacket in very good condition, with some abrasions on the front cover, dusting on spine and rear cover, now protected by mylar cover. Overall very good condition. Spence 79. Good + overall.
