Venice: 1761. Attractive Italian world map in Mercator's projection and centered on Australia, showing "Nouv Hollande, Terre de diemen, Nouv Zelande" according to Tasman's discoveries. It was included in the "Dizionario geografico portatile." The map features the voyage of Spanberg, among others in the years of 1709-39. Greenland is shown connected to North America. According to the title, the map was approved by Daniel Bernoulli (1700-1782), Dutch physician, physicist and mathematician, active in St. Petersburg and Switzerland.
Copper engraving, 12.9 x 8.7" with good borders except on the right edge. Item #23479
