Amsterdam: ca. 1680. Map of Hungary with large figurative cartouche in the lower right corner. Croatia and Bosnia along the southwest corner of the map. Austria in the northwest corner including Vienna, Poland in the northeast and Transylvania in the eastern corner, with Belgrade bordering the cartouche. The cartouche is very militaristic, with a sultan-like figure, a soldier running away, a man running with a pike with an enemy's head on top and a female allegorical figure of war. Copper engraving with original outline color, the cartouche with at least some later hand color. Centerfold a hair browned. Platemark 57.5 x 48.5 cm on paper 60.5 x 51 cm. 1.5 cm borders on left and right side, a big more at the bottom, and less at the top, but the platemark is continuous. Very good overall. Item #23485
