Jonathan Huntting Southold, Long Island to his brother. Manuscript letter.

1823. Letter from a prominent Presbyterian Southold clergyman to his brother Jeremiah Huntting of Easthampton, inquiring about a delivery of beef, discussing his recent illness having prevented him from attending Synod, and news of the recent deaths of "Dr. Gardiner and his wife". Reference to a Mr. Overton is made.

Jonathan Huntting (1778-1850) graduated from Yale College in 1804 and studied theology under Lyman Beecher. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Long Island in 1805 and was minister first at Fishkill NY and then Southold NY from 1807 to 1828.

Letter dated Nov. 13, 1823, Southold and signed Your Affectionate Brother Jon.a Huntting. Verso with calculations in the margins, trace of red sealing wax. 8 x 6 1/4" Very good condition. Item #23700
