The Fish Girl. Broadside.

Smithfield, England: 1793. A woman fish seller named pretty Poll wearing a rather elegant hat, touts her wares in eight four line verses on this scarce broadside: "My name's pretty Poll, near Thames Street, I dwell; By the Salesmen at Billingsgate, I am known might well..."

In the central image within a framed oval, sailors and a prospective customer look on as she holds up a fish. A banner at the bottom of the image with the publication date of Septr 4, 1793, J. Evans, No. 41 Long Lane, Smithfield.

Some surface abrasion. Damp stain in lower right corner not affecting image or text. Bottom left corner detached but present, with no loss to the text or image. Laid down on cardboard. Engraving 7 1/2 x 12". Not recorded in OCLC or the British Library. The Bodleian records a later copy of the broadside with similar ballad verse, and a different illustration, published Octr. 9, 1793 by I. Marshall No. 4 Aldermary Church Yard London. Good + overall.
