Ca. 1880. An archive of 18 albumen carte de visite size images of some of the great British churches and cathedrals, including: St. Nicholas (King's Lynn, Norfolk), Newcastle, Bury St. Edmunds, Durham, Tynemouth (Castle and Priory), Hitchin Church, Bolton, Durham Galthlie Chapel, Ely, Lincoln, Croyland Abbey, and Wells.
The images include facades, interiors, and architectural details. One of the images shows a group of four conversing in front of a part of the ruins of Tynemouth Priory, the ruins of the Benedictine priory where early kings of Northumbria were buried. Two women, one in a wide hoop skirt, converse with two officers in uniform.
Photographs measure from 2 1/4 x 3 1/4" to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"; laid down on both sides of thick paper, 14 x 17 1/2" Very good condition. Item #23921
