Boston: Stebbins, 1813. Pamphlet opposing the War of 1812 written by Massachusetts lawyer John Lowell (“A New England Farmer”) and member of the Federalist Party. Lowell questions Madison's real motives for declaring war on Great Britain. Federalists saw the War of 1812 as a war aimed at Canada and unworthy of support because it served no role in protecting American commerce or defending the nation's frontiers.

'Mr. Madison's Message' is laid out in 18 sections, followed by 'Some General Brief Remarks'. 8vo, 78pp. Disbound, first leaves detached, complete. OCLC: 122442426. Howes L-533. Good + overall. Item #23967
