'Hell's Angels', noted as one of the earliest sound action films, boasts some of the most spectacular flying sequences ever made, including one in which Hughes was the pilot, crashing the plane, but succeeding in getting the footage. Hughes promoted the film with the largest movie premiere ever held, with a real fighter squadron flying overhead and arc lights illuminating the length of Hollywood Boulevard. The film had production costs of $2.8 million and box office receipts of $2.5 million.
