'Hell's Angels' press book [with] modern DVD.

Los Angeles: Western Lithograph Co.; Universal Studios, 1930. First edition. Hardcover. Wonderfully illustrated promotional press book for director Howard Hughes' WWI epic war film. Staring the previously unknown but extravagantly sexy Jean Harlow as the leading lady.

'Hell's Angels', noted as one of the earliest sound action films, boasts some of the most spectacular flying sequences ever made, including one in which Hughes was the pilot, crashing the plane, but succeeding in getting the footage. Hughes promoted the film with the largest movie premiere ever held, with a real fighter squadron flying overhead and arc lights illuminating the length of Hollywood Boulevard. The film had production costs of $2.8 million and box office receipts of $2.5 million.

12mo, 32pp, b&w printed photographic illustrations, illustrated end papers. In the original publisher's gold and black stamped boards with gilt biplane at upper corner front board; boards rubbed at edges. OCLC: 1113476.
Accompanied by the Universal Studios DVD released in 2004. Very good overall. Item #24068
